Dreistil - Kick Off - impressions

Hello, dear readers!

On the 22nd of May Dreistil has been taken place for the very first time in REPLUGGED! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaah! Well, I got to say: I'm in love with this battle. Before REPLUGGED opened its doors for this event at 19:30, I was there an hour earlier to have a talk with Dreistil's organisators Daniel Malik, Epos and Kaul Kwappen. By the way, they had organised a camera team (video and photography).

Kaul Kwappen had broken his right underarm, but it didn't hold him back to give his job as an MC together with Epos at his best. Their voices were clear, pleasant and made for moderating.

DJ Funky P was working with Vinyl and his Macbook. His hip hop music made me dance all night, even during the battles. I never had a chance to say: "Oh! Come on, what you doing, man?" (And believe me, I'm saying this often during party nights, that's why I stopped partying regularly in Vienna.)

Seeing many elements of Hip Hop uniting on one place gave me a lot of inner peace and made my love to Hip Hop bigger. Dreistil - Kick off started with a warm up: an open mic session. Böser Wolf dominated this session and was the last one to leave the stage.

After the open mic sessions, the qualification round of the freestyle battle began. The qualification round was a line up of the participating rappers. Every rapper had 30 seconds time to rap freestyle about a topic he chose himself. (Originally planned, the MCs choose the topic.) As far as I can remember, there were eight rappers in the qualification round. The order of the line up was decided by drawing lots. The participants' names I can remember are: Dagoth Ur, Knostel da Huber, Vollbart, Nein, Aladin, Noah, Böser Wolf. The MCs decided backstage who qualified for the first rounds.

Rapper Noah won the freestyle battle and 200 Euro.

For me, the most impressive participant of the freestyle battle was Knostel da Huber. He showed his feeling of rhythm and brilliant flow in the battle against Böser Wolf. The audience could not decide which of them should go to the final round. An acapella decision round made it easier for the audience. And guess what: I could dance to Knostel's flow and rhythm of his acapella rap!

After the freestyle battle the acapella battle began. Böser Wolf and ARL made the first acapella battle. Here, Böser Wolf became more like a poetry slammer because of the typical intonation and pauses he made during his rap. I was disappointed that he couldn't show more of his talent. But I must admit, it was hard for him in that night. He had already participated in the open mic session and the freestyle battle (30 secs in the qualification round, 4x45 secs in the first round, 3x60 secs in the final round). ARL won and has to battle against JerMC on the 26th of June 2014. Don't miss it!

Noah and JerMC made the second acapella battle. This battle was the highlight of the Dreistil - Kick Off. I will share the link of the youtube video, when the video is uploaded. JerMC won and has to battle against ARL on the 26th of June 2014. Be there! It will be awesome!!!

After the acapella battle, I had to go home. My father's car was broken and I had to share my car with my father. I had a long way home (I don't live in Vienna) but all in all, I was happy and feeling a bit healthier after this event. I enjoyed dancing DJ Funky P's music and listening to Vienna's rappers.

Daniel Malik, MC Epos and MC Kaul Kwappen made a great job for a kick off even though it was confusing at times because of the amount of participants, battles and their rounds. Well, they are heading to make Dreistil the one and only hotspot of german-speaking rap battles in Vienna. And I strongly believe that they will manage.

Peace & love,
Kath
